The concept for the sculpture park was developed and realised by Egon A. Stumpf on behalf of the municipality of Knetzgau. The idea is based on the idea of presenting well-known or famous two- dimensional works of art as a model to a selected artist from our time and region for his or her own interpretation. The transfer from the second to the third dimension is an essential element. This transfer creates special spatial challenges for the artists and the original work. Especially the reverse side of pictures is not known and has to be added in a completely new way. Different understandings of art in different times lead to independent works in which reverence for the great models is immanent.
Each art epoch has its own ideas and is rooted in the ideas of past art epochs, as well as in the significant themes and achievements of its time. Art concepts do not come out of nowhere.
